Why fake Spotify streams are bad for an artist

Spotify is the largest music streaming service in the world and so much music is put on it that it is very difficult to break through via Spotify. So Why fake Spotify streams are bad for an artist?

To break through as an artist you almost have to do some marketing. But then why are fake streams bad?
Many artists in the past may have bought fake followers but there are a lot of reasons why it is better not to buy fake streams. We list these for you.

Low Revenue

walletTo understand this, we might first need to explain to you where the streams come from. A company that delivers the streams through this way does so itself through 1000s of accounts. Because Spotify recognizes when 1000s of accounts are created on the same IP address they rent servers on large data centers.

These servers then automatically create accounts on Spotify. Your music is then listened to by these servers.
Spotify only counts a stream as a “real listener” when someone has listened to your song for at least 30 seconds. Due to the large crowds on this company’s servers, they will not listen to your song for more than 30/35 seconds. As a result, the revenue is also a lot lower.

Bad for the algorithm

Because the listeners only listen to your song, and do not save it or put it in their own playlists it does not make for a good algorithm on Spotify. As a result, your chances of getting on Spotify’s “naturally made” lists are a lot lower.

Chance of deletion

If Spotify finds out that you have been using bots they will also punish you for this, for example, they may delete your song/album or they may close your account. All the money and work will have been for nothing! A real shame!

Bad feeling

Because you use bots (and therefore no real fans) you also don’t get a good picture of how you are doing. Are there really people who are fans of yours? Will people come to your performances later on? You’ll probably end up with a very bad feeling afterwards.

So how do you do it?

The best way is to do business with a company that puts your song on Playlists that are listened to by real people. For example, these people also save your song, put it in their own playlists and listen to your songs in full and maybe even more often!
